Releasing the Heat of the Summer

I’ve been practicing yoga for almost 15 years. Starting yoga changed my life – my body began to open and get strong but I was still carrying a little too much weight, despite the fact that I thought I was eating fairly healthily. The excess was hindering my progress. Twists were hard, I couldn’t lift my backside off the floor in the jump backs and my jeans were tight!

It wasn’t until I discovered Ayurveda - yoga’s sister science- that I began to shed the excesses and learn to properly care for myself both on and off the yoga mat.

My introduction to Ayurveda was through a fortuitous meeting in 2014, with an Ayurvedic practitioner/yoga teacher. She offered a 3-week on-line cleanse experience and invited me to take part. I wasn’t sure it was for me. I had dabbled with all sorts of fasts and detoxes before and to be honest, they were mostly miserable experiences! All were harsh and stressful and didn’t leave me with any lasting change, just a bad taste in my mouth - literally! However, there was something about the way this teacher spoke about Ayurveda that made me interested and so I went for it.

The Ayurvedic Cleanse is different to those other fasts/detoxes. Firstly, I could eat! In fact, I ate 3 warm meals each day. I could also work during the cleanse. I didn’t need to use precious holidays from work and I had energy to do all I needed to do. During that first cleanse, I shed pounds in weight, I felt light and trim in my body and more importantly I learned how to take care of myself. I’d been smitten by Ayurveda 😊

The benefits of that first cleanse were lasting and I continue to do this type of cleanse twice a year – in Spring and Autumn. It has become part of my Ritucharya – seasonal routine.

As the heat leaves and the weather turns towards the cooler temperatures of autumn, it’s a good idea to let go of the heat that accumulates in the body over the summer months. Eating a simple mono diet for a week or so, helps prepare you for the winter months ahead. Doing so, will ensure that you stay healthy and avoid all the colds and flus that generally go around.

I’m partnering with Meadowlark Yoga this autumn to offer our second Online Ayurvedic Gentle Cleanse between 26th September and 10th October 2019 £35. I’ve set up this experience to be gentle and easeful and to help you achieve all that you want to get from your investment of time. We will ease in with a period of preparation. The cleanse itself can last for up to a week but you decide what time frame works best for you. We finish with reintroduction phase which will help you get back to normal. I will guide you each step of the way, using the mediums of videos, worksheets and a FB Forum, so you can do this all from the comfort of your own home.

I should point out that you don’t have to practice yoga to do a cleanse like this. It is very achievable, safe and helpful for people of all sorts of exercise habits, including none! It is a great thing to add to your self-care routine.
